Triangle Loom Weaving Book can be purchased hardcopy or downloaded |
Hideaway Homestead Triangle Looms is ready to take orders. Most of our completed looms are listed in our Etsy Store or on ebay. You can see them by clicking on the links above. We sometimes have other trilooms for sale directly from us, see list below pricing table. The looms purchased directly from us (see prices in table below) are the same price as in the Etsy online store. Ebay prices will be slightly higher to reflect their higher selling commission.
We can make triangle looms in any size, large or small. We make the looms to weave a fabric the full size. For example, the 7' looms measure the full 84 inches from pin to pin on the long side, not "nearly" or "almost" 7 feet. The exception is the 18" loom which is slightly less than 18". Looms can be ordered any size, including looms up to 8'. The wood is oak and the pins are stainless steel.

This photo shows a close-up of stainless steel pins. The pins have a small
head that keeps the yarn from slipping off. The pins are firmly pressed
into drilled holes in the wood. They are straight, not slanted.
These pins are spaced 1/2 inch apart.
The looms are 1/2 inch
(13.5mm) sett pin spacing. This
pin spacing is for the top or long side of the triangle loom. The sides,
or short rails of the triangle have a closer pin spacing than the top, but it is
the top rail spacing that is used to identify the sett, or pitch of a loom.
The pin height is 7/16 of an inch.

Weaving with bulky yarn on standard sett triangle loom |
Close up of shawl woven with same yarn on standard sett loom. When taken off loom, the open spaces in weaving close up, especially with this stretchy yarn. |
The standard 1/2 inch sett is good for bulky yarns or for a more open weave with finer yarn. You can also double up finer yarns with this loom. You can either use two yarns at once, looping them on the same pin at the same time and weaving them as one thread; or use a process known as double weaving where you use each pin twice with one yarn. This system makes twice as many threads in a fabric as does single weaving. There are always two vertical threads for every top pin anyway, so double weaving makes about 4 threads every half-inch on a half-inch sett loom. See photo at right below. The standard 1/2 inch sett loom gives you lots of options.

The following Tables shows prices for each size of Standard sett (1/2 inch)
triloom. Shipping is additional. We can
get the shipping cost to your destination quoted to you prior to you confirming
your order. Looms will be shipped from Kingman, AZ 86401. The loom size
is the length of the top (long side) row of pins in inches.

Hideaway Homestead Combination Tri-Looms - standard sett

You can order your loom with one or more inserts which when attached to the main triangle frame, will make your loom into a complete tri-loom of that smaller size. For example, the 7' standard sett combination loom pictured has a 5' and a 3' insert. I am making these combination triangle looms in the standard 1/2" sett only.

A closer view of the same loom, showing the complete 3' portion. Adjustable looms may not adjust down to this small. We can make an insert smaller than this. Also, some adjustable looms do not fully expand to 7 feet like this one, even though they are called 7' looms. We can make a combination loom from any standard sett Hideaway Homestead triangle loom, but the larger looms 6' and up give you a bigger range of sizes when adding inserts.

A close up of the corner of the 3' portion of the combination tri-loom showing quality construction. Note how close the pins are to the inside edges of the loom frame, making weaving easier, especially in the corners when starting and finishing the weaving. All Hideaway Homestead loom frames are constructed this way, rather than having the pins or pegs far from the inside edge of the frame. All Hideaway Homestead triangle looms have stainless steel pins.
Combination Tri-Loom pricing
The price of a combination loom is the price of the basic loom plus the cost of the inserts. In the case of the 7' standard (1/2") sett combination loom pictured above, the cost of the basic 7' loom listed in the Standard Sett table above is $209.00.
To figure the cost of an insert, multiply 40% x the cost of a loom of the size of the desired insert. In the case of the combination loom pictured above, the 5' insert cost would be .4 times the $119.00 price of a complete 5' standard sett loom, or $47.60. A complete 3' standard sett loom is priced at $59.00, so .4 x $59.00 is $23.60.

Construction Details

This is a photo of the back of the right-angle corner of a 7' loom. This shows construction detail. I originally had the half-laps overlapping as in the second photo. Without the overlapping half-laps the yarn is less likely to catch a loop on the corner.

I thought this look was more artsy or folk-artsy, but this corner is at the bottom (when you have the long side at the top) where the yarn loop is often hanging down while weaving. Also, it may look as though this was as close as I could get to making the corner even and square. To avoid the potential negative feedback, I no longer have any of the corners overlapped.
More on fine-sett triangle looms.

JoAnne made several shawls with her loom with the fine set (3/8" or 9.5mm). This photo shows a close-up of the weaving. This weave is called a basket weave. It is a now a nice triangular shawl, 7 feet long on the long side.
I can make someone a fine-sett loom. The price would be 35% additional to the price of a standard sett loom from the pricing table above.

Photo of the top rail pin spacing on a fine sett triangle loom. These pins are 3/8 inch apart on centers. These pins are actually more than 7/16 inch long, the yardstick is not accurate.

This shows the side rail pin spacing on a fine sett loom. The pin spacing is slightly more than 1/4 inch. Most crochet or afghan hooks will fit between these pins.

To see how fasteners can be changed around when mounting a loom flat against a wall, see photos and explanation at very bottom of this page. Photo at right is of 18" looms, one with standard sett; one at lower right has fine sett. These corners are over-lapped the way I started doing them. Now the sharp-angled corners are much more rounded and less over-lapped.

I am told this is a knitted shawl that JoAnne made - not woven. Nice
work. The woven shawl is about the same size.
Hanging a loom against a wall
The corner bolts that come with the looms are either hex drive flat head bronze finish bolts or stainless steel carriage bolts with rounded heads. Either style is furnished with wingnuts and washers. For hanging a loom flat against a wall, the bolts can be reversed so their flat or rounded head is in the back. See Photo 1. This puts the wingnut (with washer) in front of the loom. Photo 2. The wingnuts and washers look good in front. If the wingnut is in a place to catch the yarn and cause a tangle, an acorn or cap nut can be put in its place. Photo 3. The very bottom of the triangle loom (if the long side of the triangle is positioned at the top) at the right-angle is a place where this might be helpful to keep your yarn from tangling. Another good use for acorn nuts with triangle looms with corner bolts is for a small loom that you hold on your lap; putting them on the back of the loom will make it more comfortable to hold. Acorn nuts don't poke your legs like wingnuts. But then wingnuts don't require a wrench. Acorn nuts are now included when available in addition to the wingnuts for each bolt.
